Ted

There’s no doubt why I’d gotten jealous of Mo singing with August. Our love song was raw and real. I don’t think I fully grasped its depth, what it meant to me personally, until we were onstage at the fundraiser, and August looked at me lovingly as he sang his part. Sang it to me.

There was no cause to be jealous of Mo now. I’d seen the emotion August poured into that song and felt every heartfelt word directed toward me. As we exited the stage, he got emotional, and I held him while he cried into my chest as the tears I had also been holding back broke free. Pride, relief, and another emotion I’d never felt so intensely coursed through me.

How the hell could I be in love with August Tucker after such a short time? I didn’t know, and honestly, I didn’t care. All that mattered was that I loved him, and I’d be damned if I let that slip from my grasp.

“Okay,” Onslow said as we walked out of the building and toward the limo, waiting to collect Hayden, Erik, and himself. He glanced over at Laura and Keith’s old van the rest of us had ridden there in and laughed. “I was going to offer to ride with you all, but I think I’ll leave you young folks to the Scooby-Doo van. Can you and Ted meet me this evening?”

August nodded. “Yes, sir,” he said, and Onslow smiled.

“I should tell you not to call me sir, but since no one who works with me more than a day shows any respect, I’ll take it.”

“Hey,” Hayden said, coming behind him, “I respect you. I don’t do the sir thing, but jeez, man, you aren’t my daddy.”

Onslow actually blushed at that, and I wondered for the first time if he had some sort of daddy kink. I would so be using that against him in the near future. We’d never kink-shame, but that doesn’t mean I couldn’t playfully give him shit about it.

“Okay, I’ll text Ted the location. I want it to be private, though. I have some ideas, and I don’t want the press inadvertently getting hold of it until we’re ready.”

It was normal Onslow behavior. He was a guard dog with information about us and had no tolerance for leaks regarding his clients.

Hayden hugged me, shook August’s hand, and climbed into the limo. Erik did the same after telling me, “You need to come to LA for a visit. Bring August and the new band with you.”

Onslow waved at us before climbing in, too, and then they were gone.

August sighed and leaned against me. “Do you think he’s got plans to help me grow my brand?” he asked.

I laughed out loud. “Onslow is nothing but plans. Plans that will wear you to the bone, but the man knows what he’s doing. Trust me, with your talent, once Onslow really digs into your career, you’ll be racking up hit songs and performing sold-out shows in no time.
